Fingerless mittens

Icelanders have a long tradition of working the wool and it is the material that suits our climate best. The patterns of the fingerless mittens are inspired by Icelandic nature and so are the colours. I start by knitting the mittens in double the size, next I needle felt the pattern onto the knitted material and then I wet felt them without soap and thereby shrinking them by half. It makes each piece quite time consuming in the making but it is all this handwork that gives each item the unique look even though the pattern is repeated.
